For some time now, I have been collaborating with people to create events that combine elements of knowledge exchange over carefully prepared meals, often sourcing materials locally and with elements of the food's preparation acting as content for the show itself. The first of these events was entitled Learning is Fun and entailed seven speakers delivering talks in on-campus bedrooms in Trinity College Dublin. The speakers were encouraged to share knowledge on topics outside of their professional or academic sphere: information they had accrued through love of a subject, and no other prestige. The talks culminated in a shared meal, eating delicious gumbo prepared by computational linguistics professor Carl Vogel in the cookery class he had just delivered.
